The special meeting of the Board of CALL MEETING

Education of the Leslie Public Schools,

Ingham and Jackson Counties, Michigan,

was called to order by President

Sherrell at 5:30 p.m.

BOARD DISCUSSION AND/OR ACTION:


Moved by W. Myers, supported by T. Carroll CLOSED SESSION

to enter Closed Session at 5:32 p.m., at

the request of the parents to protect the

family’s right to privacy as required by

Federal Law to hear and discuss evidence

related to the 10-day suspension of a

Leslie High School student for violation

of the Leslie High School Code of Conduct

and Board Policy #8210. Vote: ayes 5,

nays 0, absent 2 (M. Crowl, A. Bigg),

abstention 0. Motion carried.


Time entered Closed Session: 5:33 p.m.

that the Board of Education re-enter regular

session at 6:17 p.m. Vote: ayes 7,

nays 0, absent 0, abstention 0. Motion carried.

Moved by W. Myers, supported by M. Crowl FIVE-DAY

that Leslie High School Student 2008.09-7 SUSPENSION

be suspended from Leslie Public Schools for STUDENT

five days due to a violation of the Leslie 2008-09.7

High School Code of Conduct, Leslie Board

Policy #8210 and the contract for continuing

education. The following stipulations were

also invoked by the Board of Education:

1. attendance at study tables three days

per week; 2. may not drive to school or use

school parking lot; 3. no cell phone allowed

in school; 4. provide proof of completion

of a smoking cessation course on the student’s

personal time and at his/her personal expense

by April 15, 2009; and remain under contract

for continued enrollment for the balance of

his/her education at Leslie Public Schools.

Vote: ayes 7, nays 0, absent 0, abstention 0.

Motion carried.


Moved by W. Myers, supported by E. Isham CLOSED SESSION

to convene into Closed Session pursuant to

Subsection 8 (c) of the Michigan Open

Meetings Act for the purpose of discussing

contract negotiations. Vote: ayes 7,

nays 0, absent 0, abstention 0. Motion carried.


The Board entered Closed Session at 6:23 p.m.


Moved by A. Bigg, supported by E. Isham OPEN SESSION

that the Board of Education re-enter regular

session at 7:27 p.m. Vote: ayes 7,

nays 0, absent 0, abstention 0. Motion carried.


President Sherrell adjourned the meeting at 8:15 p.m. ADJOURNMENT
