was called to order by President

COMMENTS AND/CONCERNS OF CITIZENS PRESENT:
Katherine Maiville, 4675 Onondaga Rd., Onondaga
spoke against privatization and submitted a
petition with 126 signatures to President Sherrell.
Elizabeth Maiville, 4675 Onondaga Rd., Onondaga
spoke about losing Mr. Hanson from Woodworth
Elementary School.
Joyce Kunkel, 4276 Kinneville Rd., Onondaga
compared salaries with other school districts
and spoke against privatization.
Mary Riehl, 4420 Crain Rd., Onondaga
spoke against professional development
days and one-half school days.
Pam Kunkel-Chappell, 4480 Kinneville Rd., Onondaga
spoke about the effects privatization would
have on Leslie as a “community school.”
Special Education Director Connie Smith
spoke about increasing demands meeting
state and federal regulations. Compliance
is a major issue for special education
teachers and for reporting purposes.
BOARD DISCUSSION AND/OR ACTION:
Moved by W. Myers, supported by T. Carroll
to move Agenda Item “F. Custodial/
Grounds Discussion” after “H. Closed
Session.” Vote: ayes 6, nays 0, absent 1
A. Bigg). Motion carried.
Moved by W. Myers, supported by M. Crowl ADMINISTRATIVE
that the Board of Education terminate the POSITION -
contract of Constance Smith, Special CONNIE SMITH
Education Director (.5 FTE), and
place her on layoff at the end of the
2008-09 school year due to fiscal restraints.
Vote: ayes 5, nays 1 (E. Isham), absent 1
(A. Bigg). Motion carried.

Moved by T. Carroll, supported by W. Myers GRADUATION
that the Leslie Board of Education approve REQUIREMENTS-
the First Reading to Board Policy #7630 – FIRST
Graduation Requirements, which includes READING
Personal Curriculum, as presented.
Vote: ayes 6, nays 0, absent 1 (A. Bigg).
Motion carried.
Supt. Corey Netzley updated Board members
that letters will be mailed to all
parents on Tuesday, April 28, 2009
regarding Swine Influenza.
Supt. Netzley will have a recommendation
on the May 11 regular Board agenda for
the number of positions being eliminated
as part of the 2009-10 budget reductions.
Moved by W. Myers, supported by M. Crowl
to change the regular Board meeting
from Monday, June 8, 2009 to Monday,
June 1, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the
Leslie High School Board Room.
Vote: ayes 6, nays 0, absent 1 (A. Bigg).
Motion carried.
Moved by W. Myers, supported by M. Crowl SUPERINTENDENT
that the Board of Education adopt the EVALUATION evaluation of Superintendent Corinne
Netzley conducted on March 18, 2009.
Vote: ayes 6, nays 0, absent 1 (A. Bigg).
Motion carried.
Moved by T. Carroll, supported by P. Fogg CLOSED
that the Board of Education convene in SESSION
Closed Session pursuant to Subsection
8 (c) of the Michigan Open Meetings
Act for the purpose of discussing contract
negotiations. Vote: ayes 6, nays 0,
absent 1 (A. Bigg). Motion carried.
The Board entered closed session at 6:54 p.m.
Moved by W. Myers, supported by T. Carroll OPEN
that the Board of Education re-enter regular SESSION
session at 7:36 p.m. Vote: ayes 7, nays 0,
absent 0. Motion carried.

Facility Director Troy James updated
the Board on the process for receiving
and reviewing bids for custodial, lawn
mowing and snow plowing privatization.
Mr. James has visited four school districts
to observe the cleanliness and work performed
by the top two custodial bidders. He has
contacted all the references. This issue
will be placed on the May 11, 2009 Board agenda.
COMMENTS AND/CONCERNS OF CITIZENS PRESENT:
Jennifer Shuster, 214 Butler Street, Leslie,
asked who makes the privatization
recommendation to the Board.
President Sherrell adjourned the meeting at 8:01 p.m. ADJOURNMENT
