The special meeting of the Board of                         CALL MEETING

Education of the Leslie Public Schools,

Ingham and Jackson Counties, Michigan,

was called to order by Superintendent

Corey Netzley at 6:00 p.m.

 

Members present:    Adrienne Bigg

Tim Carroll

Mary Crowl

                    Tom Davis

                    Eric Isham

                    Brad Ries

                    John Wayne Stewart

Pledge of Allegiance given.

 

COMMENTS AND/CONCERNS OF CITIZENS PRESENT:

None.

 

BOARD DISCUSSION AND/OR ACTION:

Moved by M. Crowl, supported by T. Carroll                  CLOSED SESSION

to enter closed session at 6:03 p.m.,

at the request of the student to protect

the right to privacy as required by

Federal Law to appeal a disciplinary action. 

Vote: ayes 7, nays 0, absent 0. Motion carried.

 

The Board entered Closed Session at 6:04 p.m.

 

Moved by T. Carroll, supported by M. Crowl                  OPEN SESSION

that the Board of Education re-enter

regular session at 7:05 p.m.  Vote:

ayes 7, nays 0, absent 0. Motion carried.

 

Moved by J. W. Stewart, supported by A. Bigg                STUDENT

that the appeal regarding pending disciplinary              2009-10.02

action for Leslie High School Student 2009-2010.2

be rejected. Vote:  ayes 7, nays 0, absent 0.

January is School Board Recognition Month.

Eighth grade student Austin Seavolt read

Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s Certificate of

Proclamation recognizing Board members

for their contributions to children and

communities.  First grader Kalex Dodge

distributed a Certificate of Appreciation

and a small token to each Board member.

 

Moved by A. Bigg, supported by M. Crowl                     CLOSED SESSION

to enter closed session at 7:10 p.m., at the

request of the parent to protect the right to

privacy as required by Federal Law to hear

and discuss evidence related to the possible

suspension for Leslie Middle School Student

2009-10.3.   Vote: ayes 7, nays 0, absent 0.

Motion carried.

 

The Board entered Closed Session at 7:10 p.m.

 

Moved by T. Carroll, supported by M. Crowl                  OPEN SESSION

that the Board of Education re-enter

regular session at 8:02 p.m. Vote: ayes 7,

nays 0, absent 0. Motion carried.

 

Moved by B. Ries, supported by E. Isham                     STUDENT

that Leslie Middle School student 2009-10.3                 2009-10.3

be suspended from Leslie Public Schools for

the balance of the 2009-2010 school year

with the ability to return in September 2010

under a contract for continued enrollment.

Vote: ayes 7, nays 0, absent 0. Motion carried

 

Superintendent Netzley adjourned the meeting                ADJOURNMENT

at 8:03 p.m.
