    READING

    Reading is Fundamental RIF: the nation's largest children's literacy organization.  This site offers activity lists, articles, tips and booklists for coordinaters, teachers and parents.  For students there are literacy games, read along stories, and a reading planet.  Reading Planet offers a Book Zone where stories and songs can be listened too, an Activity Lab with a coloring book, reading activity calendar, and a story that can be illustrated, a Game Station  and Express Yourself, a place where students can dicuss books, collaborate on books, and more.

    Story Place Created by the public library of Charlotte, NC proposes to be the Children's Digital Library. Attention capturing stories followed by both digital and paper activites.

    Starfall Primarily designed for first grade, Starfall is also useful for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and second grade. Educational entertainment, where children have fun learning to read.

    Wacky Web Tales Choose a story title, add the requested parts of speech and create a fanciful story.  Wacky Web Tales are geared for grades 3 and above.

    Teachers Pet The Teacher's Pet is a word processor toolbar, for both Open Office and MS Word, that can transform any text into fun classroom activities.  The software can create crosswords, bingo cards, jumbles, word search puzzles,flashcards,cloze tests, pair-matching puzzles and much more. To unlock some of the features the full version must be purchased.

    Hot Potatoes (for the web) The Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications, enabling you to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web.  Hot Potatoes is not freeware, but it is free of charge for those working for publicly-funded non-profit-making educational institutions, who make their pages available on the web.
