Leslie Aspire Scholarship Program
Our aspirations are our possibilities

Current Newsletter available page one here and page two here..

Leslie AspireThe Leslie Aspire Scholarship Program was created by Leslie Middle School to help our at-risk student population be more successful. The program is designed to meet the needs of the whole student: personal, social, emotional and academic. The Leslie Aspire Scholarship and Achieve Program consist of three major components of college tuition, mentoring and success training. Students will be selected for the program at the end of their 5th grade year, and will be supported by the program throughout their educational career at Leslie Public Schools to prepare them for success in college.

As part of the capital campaign for The Aspire Scholarship Program, the Leslie Aspire Apple Program was developed. The Apple Program allows people to donate money to the Aspire Scholarship in honor of the recipient by purchasing an apple in their name. They can then give the apple to the recipient as a gift. The recipient names will be shared in local publications. What better gift is there than knowing you have made a difference in the life of a child? These apples are sure to be appreciated by anyone who is lucky enough to receive one.

If you are interested in purchasing an apple, donating to the scholarship fund, or if you have questions, please contact Laura Fenger at (517) 589-8218.

Advantages of Mentoring
In terms of educational achievement, mentored youth have better attendance; a better chance of going on to higher education; and better attitudes towards school. In terms of health and safety, mentoring appears to help prevent substance abuse and reduce some negative youth behaviors. On the social and emotional development front, taking part in mentoring promotes positive social attitudes and relationships. Mentored youth tend to trust their parents more and communicate better with them.

What is the purpose of Aspire?
The purpose for Aspire is to keep students in school and expose them to possibilities. The middle school years are pivotal years for many students.

By offering this scholarship and the mentoring that goes along with it, these students' needs can be better met, keeping them on track for graduation.
